Rebuild of Evangelion: 1.0 was the number one most sold anime dvd in the first half of 2008, and ranked 4th overall in the Oricon list of the top 50 DVDs sold in Japan from December 24 of 2007 to June 16 of 2008. Released on April 25 at a retail cost of 5,985 yen (about US$56.10), the collector’s edition set sold 263,395 copies in sales tracked by Oricon. 219,000 of those were sold from its the first week. The package contained significant extras such as a 35mm film strip clipped from the theatrical release of the movie (which I guess some were auctioned on eBay), an exclusive booklet and box, and a second DVD of commentary, promotional videos, and other supplementary material.

The 40th Auckland International Film Festival will screen the Japanese animated films Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone and Vexille during the July 10-27 event in New Zealand. Hideaki Anno and Khara’s first film in a four-film remake of Gainax’s Evangelion science-fiction series will screen on July 19, 24, and 26. Vexille, Fumihiko Sori’s paramilitary drama about a future Japan in techno-political isolation, will run twice on July 11 and repeat on July 12 and 14.
It appears that the theatres haven’t closed its curtains yet for the first remake of the Evangelion series, well that’s good news. Hopefully some film fest here in the Philippines would also screen Eva: 1.0.

You Are [Not] Alone did it again for a second week in a row in the Japanese Animation DVD Ranking. Meet the Robinsons, and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 #4 rounds up the top three respectively.

Have you ever wanted to know what an LCL tastes like? Well now you have the chance to have a glass of it.
The Cure Maid Café in Tokyo’s Akihabara otaku shopping district is updating and reviving its Eva Cafe menu until May 18 to mark the April 25 DVD release of the Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone film in Japan. One of the restored menu items is the LCL Drink orange juice served in a bonus Puka-Puka Rei-chan tumbler glass. It serves Sachiel Pasta (squid-ink pasta with a cheese angel head and a cherry tomato) and a Dialogue and Character Name Cheesecake (cake with random dialogue lines and character names written on top). It also offers an Asuka cocktail (orange juice with pomegranate syrup) and a Rei cocktail (grapefruit juice with Blue Hawaii syrup).
The Pasela chain of Japanese restauants is offering a partly different Evangelion menu until May 25. For the Eva Honey Toast, the cafe takes its house specialty (a stack of honey-soaked toast) and tops it with a crucified Lilith angel and NERV logo. It also offers Sachiel Pasta, Misato’s Curry Ramen, and a pitcher of draft beer with the bonus Rei tumbler glass. The Akihabara branch of the chain replaces Eva Honey Toast with White Wing Honey Toast and adds “dessert of Zaruel.”
I’m not a food critic so I don’t really know how to judge this, but the presentation of ‘Sachiel pasta’ is a big “No“. Also, if you can still remember in the original tv series, Shinji, Ritsuko, and Pen-pen had a taste of Misato’s Curry Ramen, and the result was ..well awful (I wonder what the real one tastes like).
This evangelion-influenced-menu will be available for a limited time only, so if you’re too curious then I guess it’s not bad to order one.
The first dvd from the Evangelion rebuild movies took the number one spot in the Japanese Animation DVD Ranking, just on its first week!
