Queen of Ants (Rare)
3gg

Creature – Insect

1{G}: Put a 1/1 green Insect creature token into the battlefield.
5/5

Well, that’s all the card says. And once again, I’m really not excited about saying “into the battlefield”. Maybe it needs some getting used to, but it sounds a little bit childish for me. It’s good enough for a release card though.

And now, about the card, very nice actually. A 5/5 for 5 mana is decent enough, considering that it’s supported by green accelerators. And its ability is just so good. Gaea’s Anthem or Muraganda Petroglyphs anyone?

Considering that it IS a “future” card, will we see it get reprinted for M10? Preferably for Queen of Ants? Maybe, maybe not. And of course, Garruk Wildspeaker will surely be in tandem with this queen for added rampage and acceleration. 2 1/1s for 2 mana each turn and then an Overrun ability anyone?

All in all, I would probably be using it in a casual deck filled with Gaea’s Anthem, Muraganda Petroglyphs, Garruk Wildspeaker, and of course Essence Warden for more annoyance to the opponent.

Vampire Nocturnus (Mythic Rare)

Creature – Vampire
Play with the top card of your library revealed.
As long as the top card of your library is black, Vampire Nocturnus and other Vampire creatures you control get +2/+1 and have flying.

So, is the following image Vampire Nocturnus and not really Dark Ritual?

Okay, according to what I’ve read in the MTG Salvation forums, Vampire Nocturnus will indeed be the Prerelease Foil Promo card for M10.

About the card, well, I think it’s just okay to be in Mythic Rare. At a 1bbb casting cost, it pretty much says it all that this card would mostly likely be good in a mono black and preferably vampire-filled deck. Now, I know, why doesn’t the vampire have flying? Well, maybe it’s because of the humanoid/hybrid vampire creatures lurking around somewhere (True Blood?). And what about it’s ability?

Pretty good actually, once you do get a black card on top of your library, even if your opponent will also know about it (which may just help you), it gets slightly bigger and more evasive. Once your Vampire Nocturnus becomes a 5/4 flyer for just 4 mana, it’s actually a sweet deal. And, if lots of vampires (changelings?) come around M10 and the following sets, then the bloodthirsty race might just be good enough for Standard play. But actually, Vampire Nocturnus is already good on its own. And since it’s not legendary, having 2,3, or even 4 of these in play or battlefield will be so fun.

The image of Nissa Revane is now available on the official MTG website. She IS a planeswalker, and people are saying that she might just be one of the new planeswalkers to come out in Zendikar.
